What #Blog4Reform has done for me....

So I struggled with trying to find something new to write for the Blogging for Real Reform project that happened on Nov. 22nd. I wasn't sure how to tackle the big issues right now, because whether it is the NYC Chancellor fiasco where the mayor doesn't think that having a leader who has any connection at all to public education or Rupert Murdoch's purchase of Wireless Generation which guarantees the continued creep of massive for-profit in education or Bill Gates and Arne Duncan negating the years I've spent both in graduate school and in my career honing my craft, it all feels a little overwhelming.

These past couple of months have been a real challenge for me.  For the first time in my 22 year career, I have been disillusioned with being an educator.  The current popular trend to blame teachers for all of our educational problems is doing more to demoralize well intentioned, hard working educators than it is to change education for our students.  If educational leaders like Chris Lehmann are struggling, something has to be wrong......BUT, this is why Ira Socol's #Blog4Reform event has become a watershed for me.  Reading through the many posts has been very uplifting to me!  I have to concentrate on what I can do to make changes where I am, as well as nurture and encourage those teachers I work with.  My day from now on will end with the question "what did I do to make my school better today?"
